What is the official rate?
The volume-weighted average rate from the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) — the rate the CBN recognises for the day. It updates once per business day, so Friday's rate carries through the weekend.
What is the parallel market rate?
The street rate — what dealers outside the official market actually trade at. It moves through the day and differs by dealer and city, so treat our number as indicative, not a quote you can trade on.
Why are the two different?
The official rate reflects transactions inside the formal market; the street rate reflects supply and demand outside it. When demand for foreign currency outruns official supply, the street rate trades higher — the spread above shows the gap.
How fresh is this data?
The official rate refreshes once daily; the street rate is pulled once a day. Each card shows exactly when its number was last updated.
Rates are for information only, not investment advice. The parallel market rate is unofficial and indicative — confirm actual rates with your dealer before acting.
